Welcome to my Jukebox Hits! I am counting down my all-time favorite songs from 50 to 1!
Happy Valentines Day, everyone! Today is all about LOVE, and I have some great selections that have stood the test of time. I have chosen five, count ’em, five, classic love songs.
Five YouTube videos are the limit here at FanStory Central, otherwise the system goes a little haywire. My selections were taken from memory, and how these songs stirred me then and now. I have pretty good taste, or so I have been told. I hope you all are blessed, and filled with love today.
Leading the way at #31 is Open Arms by Journey. This song gets better with age. An emotional love song with a plea, featuring the beautiful voice of Steve Perry. He is also the co-writer of the song, which I think accounts for the song’s ongoing success.
{Open Arms}
Lying beside you, here in the dark
Feeling your heartbeat with mine
Softly you whisper, you’re so sincere
How could our love be so blind?
We sailed on together
We drifted apart
And here you are, by my side
So now I come to you with open arms
Nothing to hide, believe what I say
So here I am, with open arms
Hoping you’ll see what your love means to me
Open arms
Living without you, living alone
This empty house seems so cold
Wanting to hold you
Wanting you near
How much I wanted you home
But now that you’ve come back
Turned night into day
I need you to stay
So now I come to you with open arms
Nothing to hide, believe what I say
So here I am, with open arms
Hoping you’ll see what your love means to me
Open arms

For my dear Dorothy Farrell, a romantic poetess here on FanStory, a dedication, as she loves anything by Nat King Cole. I’ve chosen The Very Thought Of You for # 30. This song is pure poetry to me: I see your face in every flower, your eyes in stars above…. This gem was also recorded by the equally great, Billie Holiday.
{The Very Thought Of You}
The very thought of you and I forget to do
The little ordinary things that everyone ought to do
I’m living in a kind of daydream
I’m happy as a king
And foolish though it may seem
To me that’s everything
The mere idea of you, the longing here for you
You’ll never know how slow the moments go till I’m near to you
I see your face in every flower
Your eyes in stars above
It’s just the thought of you
The very thought of you, my love
The mere idea of you, the longing here for you
You’ll never know how slow the moments go till I’m near to you
I see your face in every flower
Your eyes in stars above
It’s just the thought of you
The very thought of you, my love

I have a super sweet one at # 29: And I Love You So by Perry Como. My mother had this album, and this particular song still brings me to tears. Mr. Como is no longer with us; but his music lives on.
{And I Love You So}
And I love you so
The people ask me how
How I’ve lived till now
I tell them I don’t know
I guess they understand
How lonely life has been
But life began again
The day you took my hand
And yes, I know how lonely life can be
The shadows follow me ‘n’ the night won’t set me free
But I don’t let the evening get me down
Now that you’re around me
And you love me, too
Your thoughts are just for me
You set my spirit free
I’m happy that you do
The book of life is brief
And once a page is read
All but life is dead
That is my belief
And yes, I know how lonely life can be
The shadows follow me and the night won’t set me free
But I don’t let the evening get me down
Now that you’re around me

# 28 is Never My Love by The 5th Dimension. Love, love this group, and especially Marilyn McCoo featured in the song. Her powerful voice and incredible range carries this emotional tribute. I dedicate this to my darling husband of 47 years, Jack. I love you, sweetheart, and I always will.
{Never My Love}
You ask me if there’ll come a time
When I grow tired of you
Never my love
Never my love
You wonder if this heart of mine
Will lose its desire for you
Never my love
Never my love
What makes you think love will end
When you know that my whole life depends
On you (on you)
Never my love
Never my love
You say you fear I’ll change my mind
And I won’t require you
Never my love
Never my love
How can you think love will end
When I’ve asked you to spend your whole life
With me (with me, with me)

# 27 is All I Ask Of You by Andrew Lloyd Webber from Phantom of the Opera. I have chosen a clip from the 2004 movie featuring Emmy Rossum and Patrick Wilson.
{All I Ask Of You}
No more talk of darkness,
Forget these wide-eyed fears;
I’m here, nothing can harm you,
My words will warm and calm you.
Let me be your freedom,
Let daylight dry your tears;
I’m here, with you, beside you,
To guard you and to guide you.
Say you love me every waking moment,
Turn my head with talk of summertime.
Say you need me with you now and always;
Promise me that all you say is true,
That’s all I ask of you.
Let me be your shelter,
Let me be your light;
You’re safe, no one will find you,
Your fears are far behind you.
All I want is freedom,
A world with no more night;
And you, always beside me,
To hold me and to hide me.
Then say you’ll share with me one love, one lifetime;
Let me lead you from your solitude.
Say you need me with you, here beside you,
Anywhere you go, let me go too,
Christine, that’s all I ask of you
Say you’ll share with me one love, one lifetime;
Say the word and I will follow you.
Share each day with me,
Each night, each morning.
Say you love me!
RAOUL
You know I do.
Love me, that’s all I ask of you
